Remembering it all

As we reflect on this year, it’s important to be aware of the tendency to recall only what is riveting. We’ve been led to believe that simple, delightful pleasures are not as important; If an encounter isn’t dramatic, widespread, or painful, it isn’t worthy of our attention. But we must not dismiss joy. We cannot forget kindness. Be reminded, then, of the times this year when you felt proud, inspired, or close to someone’s heart; when you were enchanted by a spectacular sunset, giddy over some good news, or appreciative of an unexpected phone call. Look closely, and you’ll discover there is more to remember than you realized. Here’s to a tomorrow that is just as magnificent as today.
